Summer Fun Edition
Summeris a time for students and families to spend time together engaging in many of the fun activities for which there is not time during the school year. Each week, the newsletter will focus on a different aspect of summertime---summer safety, crafts, holidays, places to visit---and many other summertime topics!

Summer Fun Topic of the Week

July is National Picnic Month! Picnics can be super simple…..the recipe is literally “get some food….eat it outdoors.” Picnics can be fancy with beautiful blankets, baskets, and gourmet food. Whatever your picnicking style, sharing a meal outside in nature is always special.

Kids can help with the picnic preparations by gathering the needed supplies or even preparing some of the food. Some kid friendly recipes can be found here and here.

Adults, please make sure to always supervise children while they are using knives and skewers, but kids can definitely help out by:

  • preparing simple sandwiches

  • washing and slicing fruit for fruit salads or fruit skewers

  • slicing vegetables for veggie sticks

  • peeling boiled eggs

  • combining snacks to create a fun trailmix

  • using tortillas to create tasty pinwheels, or

  • slicing cheese to pair with lunchmeat in roll-up form or for enjoying with crackers.

Picnics can happen ANYWHERE, but Jasper has some wonderful parks that are ideal for enjoying a picnic, including:
Kiwanis Park Located at E. Water Street and Main Street
Sandy Creek Park Located between Main Street and Marvin Hancock Drive
James Byrd Jr. Memorial Park Located on Burch Street
Caradine Park Located at the intersection of Caradine Street and Morris Street
