Reading and Literacy
Few things are more important to success in life than being literate. We use reading everyday to simply function in life and it is arguably the most important academic skill that is taught to students. Readers are more able to make informed decisions, think critically and reach the academic and career goals that they aspire to reach.
At Jasper junior High school, we want every student to be able to read and understand the information that we put in front of them, as well as what they find beyond our four walls. Simply recognizing words is not the goal. We want our students to be able to understand the information and then determine its validity and the ramifications it has on their lives. If they are able to do this, they will become productive members of society.
For ideas to help your child become a better reader at home, I am posting a link below to a great article about that offers easy tips on making your home a place for readers. Together we can increase the literacy in our community.
