Technology at School
As technology advances at a rapid rate, schools and parents find themselves trying to stay abreast of the changes. AI, appropriate use policies, cyberbullying and social media are just a few of the issues that schools and parents deal with on a daily basis and then try to navigate how much responsibility to give a teen or preteen. Often it can seem overwhelming to everyone involved. (Except for he student who thinks all of this is great.)
Social media can be particularly hard because there are so many different apps out there and many are designed explicitly to be hidden from parents or guardians. Students can also find themselves in dangerous or compromising positions because they fell prey to a person pretending to be a child who is in fact an adult. Additionally, students can be victims of cyberbullying or use their electronic device to bully someone else. One of the best ways to help mitigate these issues is to have open conversations about them with your child. Look through their phones and ask them what social media apps they are using and explain the dangers. I am including a link to explain more about this below. #PartnershipforLearning
