JJHS Update

Learning a new concept or skill is a challenging process. Time and energy must be expended for whatever we are learning to become second nature. Productive struggle is the term we use to describe this phenomena. As adults, we have learned that whenever we learn something new we have to practice it over and over to become proficient. It is not a glamorous journey from beginning to end, but we have learned that it is necessary.

For students in class, it is no different. They are constantly learning new ideas, processes, and skills and through this process, they will struggle and very often will need extra support. Students get this support from teachers who use different learning strategies and techniques in the class room as well as extra tutorials that are offered before and after school throughout the week. At home, parents can support this by letting their child know that the struggle is a part of the learning process that is normal and should be embraced. The struggle allows them to gain the knowledge that we want them to have. It is not simply struggle for struggle's sake but struggle for a purpose.
